Trump Issues Warning in Response to Digital Tax Policies
(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stern warning on Monday, declaring his intent to enforce broad new tariffs and export limitations on nations that implement digital services taxes.
He argued that such tax measures are unfairly directed at American technology giants.
“As the President of the United States, I will stand up to Countries that attack our incredible American Tech Companies,” Trump proclaimed via the social media network Truth Social, which he personally owns.
He went on to claim that digital tax systems and related frameworks “are all designed to harm, or discriminate against, American Technology” while granting “a complete pass to China’s largest Tech Companies.”
Trump emphasized the unequal treatment these policies represent for American firms compared to their Chinese counterparts.
“With this TRUTH, I put all Countries with Digital Taxes, Legislation, Rules, or Regulations on notice that unless these discriminatory actions are removed, I, as President of the United States, will impose substantial additional Tariffs on that Country's Exports to the U.S.A., and institute Export restrictions on our Highly Protected Technology and Chips,” he continued.
The issue of digital service taxes has been a contentious point in international trade negotiations for years.
These levies primarily affect major U.S.-based tech corporations such as Amazon, Alphabet, and Meta, making them a recurring source of diplomatic friction.
