Iran Denies Reports of Interim Nuclear Deal with U.S.

(MENAFN) Iran on Monday firmly denied engaging in talks over a temporary agreement as part of its ongoing indirect nuclear discussions with the United States.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei, speaking during a press conference in Tehran, stated: "If the US goal is to maintain Iran's nuclear program as peaceful, this can be achieved. We have never sought military nuclear capabilities."

However, Baqaei cautioned against any negotiations that seek to restrict Iran’s fundamental rights. "If the aim is to deprive Iran of its basic rights like low-level uranium enrichment, we don't believe such negotiations would succeed," he warned.

He also dismissed international reports that claimed Tehran was considering a three-year suspension of uranium enrichment to ease a possible agreement with Washington.

"No, there is absolutely nothing like this on the table," he said emphatically.

Mediation efforts led by Oman are ongoing, as Muscat facilitates backchannel discussions between Tehran and Washington aimed at resolving long-standing disputes surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities. Five negotiation rounds have taken place since last month, three of them hosted in Oman’s capital.

The U.S. previously withdrew from the 2015 nuclear accord — formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action — under President Donald Trump in 2018. Trump has advocated for a “better” agreement, asserting that the US will not allow Iran to have a nuclear bomb.
