Pakistan Urges Dialogue for Conflict with India

(MENAFN) Pakistan on Friday urged the importance of “prioritizing” dialogue and peaceful negotiation to lower friction with India.

Foreign Ministry representative Shafqat Ali Khan told the media in Islamabad that the current truce between Islamabad and New Delhi is a “positive” step.

He appealed to New Delhi to “adhere faithfully to its implementation” and to place emphasis on regional peace and the welfare of the population.

This statement followed Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar’s call the previous day for "composite dialogue" with India to settle all outstanding matters between the neighboring countries.
By the time this report was issued, New Delhi had not issued a response.

Tensions between the long-standing adversaries escalated on the night of May 6, when New Delhi launched missile strikes into Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, targeting what it described as "nine terror locations." In retaliation, Islamabad responded on May 10 by striking 26 Indian military positions within India and in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Nonetheless, a ceasefire was brokered by the United States last weekend and remains active. On Thursday, both armed forces agreed to maintain “confidence-building measures to reduce alertness level.”

In response to United States Leader Donald Trump’s offer to help mediate the Jammu and Kashmir conflict, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson remarked: "We reiterate our support for President Trump's announcement on engaging with Pakistan and India to seek a resolution to the Jammu and Kashmir dispute."
