Russia Says Next German Chancellor Poses Threat to World
This comment came after the media revealed that Friedrich Merz, in his upcoming Easter address, intends to state: “Germany will again assume responsibility – in Europe and in the world. Not loudly, but reliably. Not arrogantly, but in a partner-like manner.”
Responding to this report, Zakharova posted a satirical remark on her Telegram account, questioning which “historical period” Merz was referring to with the term “again” in his reported statement.
Her comment appeared to point to concerns about Germany possibly retracing steps from a more aggressive or dominant era in its past.
Friedrich Merz, who is anticipated to officially become chancellor on May 6, recently mentioned during an interview, that he might approve the transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
These long-range weapons, capable of reaching 500 kilometers, have previously been denied to Kiev by current Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Scholz has consistently turned down Ukraine’s requests for the missiles, citing potential risks of escalating the ongoing war.
In contrast, Merz stated that under his leadership, Germany “would be equipping the Ukrainian army with such a weapon.”
He hinted that these missiles could potentially be used by Ukrainian forces to target strategic infrastructure, such as the bridge that connects Crimea to mainland Russia.
