Australian Premier Announces Date for 2025 General Election
“She accepted my advice that an election be held on Saturday, 3rd of May, 2025,” Albanese has stated, the leader of the ruling Labor Party.
This announcement happened briefly after the government presented a tax reduction strategy that will take effect the upcoming year as part of a larger initiative to ease the cost of living.
As a result, the opposition Liberal-National Coalition pledged to reverse the tax cuts if they win the election, vowing to adopt a reduction in fuel excise to combat inflation worries.
Australia's general election was originally scheduled by May 17. Voters will choose representatives for all 150 seats in the House of Representatives and 40 out of 76 seats in the Senate.
In the previous federal election of 2022, the Labor Party won 77 seats, whereas the opposition secured 58.
No Australian prime minister has achieved consecutive election victories in over 20 years.
